Sharing the Same Food Trope in Romances

Certain tropes show up again and again in romances. Some of them I "get." Even when I'm not partial to them myself, I understand why they would be appealing, such as being cared for during an illness.

The feeding the lover trope I do not get AT ALL.

I'm not talking about buying food for someone. Years ago, when I was working two minimum wage part-time jobs and barely paying my rent, I lived on milk and bread. A lady from my church brought me a slab of steak. It was quite seriously one of the nicest things anyone had ever done for me.

And who turns down chocolates?! Okay, some people. But most people don't!

The food trope I'm referring to is when the lover...

  • Spoons up food for the significant other.
  • Eats the same food as the significant other at the same time.
  • Wipes food off the significant other's face.

It's such a common trope that it can be satirized. My School President amusingly plays off the last variation when Gun laps up the food at the edge of his mouth before Tinn can lovingly remove it. Gun then unself-consciously and chidingly wipes food off Tinn's mouth.

Lady & the Tramp presents the second variation as the ultimate cute date milestone. In Love by Chance 2, Can gets irritated when Tin tries the same move, another reason I like Can.

For my reaction in real life would be "Get your blankity blank blank blank hands off my food, no matter where it is!"

Must be those cavewoman instincts kicking in, despite the city milieu.

MY FOOD!
