I am a fan of all types of romance, from grocery store paperbacks to classics, from shojo manga to yaoi manga and light novels, from lush anime to screwball comedies. I am fascinated by the characters, the plots, the writing, and the themes. This blog focuses on yaoi manga with forays into other mediums and genres. Romance or writing is usually the focus.

Sitcoms: Weddings
Generally speaking, they are usually kind of lame and way too schmaltzy. However--
Mandy and Kyle's is one of the most heartfelt. My three favorite parts are (1) when Mike tries to explain why Mandy is acting the way that she is--Bridezilla. Change frightens her; she tries to control change by overthinking the details (he doesn't simply fall back on the "oh, she's the bride" explanation); (2) when Mike and Vanessa draw the line--whatever Mandy's motivations, she is not allowed to hold the family hostage with her increasingly nutty demands; (3) Kyle's statement to Mandy, "You never have to apologize--except if you've done something really awful, and then it would just be polite." The wedding at Outdoor Man is quite lovely.
Frasier helps Niles pick the ring.
Niles and Daphne's wedding episode in Frasier is one of cleverest in terms of writing. Niles and Daphne go through several ceremonies in order to satisfy a variety of relatives. David Hyde Pierce as Niles once again delivers a hilarious performance when he tries to remember his original vows: "And, uh..." Daphne's previous engagement is perfectly paid-off: kudos to Saul Rubinek.
Hugo and Alice's wedding in The Vicar of Dibley is hilariously goofy and has one of my favorite scenes of all time. A woman bursts into the church, declaring, "The groom is already married!" Hugo turns around while Alice faints. "Oh," the interrupting woman says, "sorry, wrong church."
