Willa and Toby, the moving picture entrepreneur, are drawn to each other--rather in the way that Kili and Tauriel are drawn to each other in The Hobbit. They have more in common with each other than with anyone else.
Hey, Willa and Toby are on their way to California to break into moving pictures--which means, they will marry, divorce, and have screaming matches with each other in the middle of restaurants.
It's okay! They aren't soulmates--except in having a mutual passion for something else. The relationship isn't the answer to the conflict. The interest is the answer.
However, Willa and Toby do illustrate a "must have" in most modern fairy tale retellings: the princess and prince have already met before the "marriage" (or trip to California). Some prior acquaintanceship is required. One's pedigree is not enough.
